The practice of the Yoga creates a state of balance by developing both strength and flexibility.
Yoga is not about what you are doing, rather it is the state of mind you are in while doing. Whether it is while practicing the postures on your yoga mat or sitting in a traffic jam, yoga teaches you to be more connected and aware to what is going on inside and around you.
You may first approach yoga for its physical benefits and will soon discover it exercises not just your body but your mind as well. Your practice will relieve both physical and emotional stress and tensions and much more.
The Benefits:
Practicing the yoga postures (asana) while working with great attention to the depth of the breath (pranayama), has a profound effect on health: improving cardiovascular health and circulation, keeping the functioning of the inner organs and nerves in order, aligning the skeletal system, toning the muscles, and leading to greater energy, better concentration, mental clarity and emotional balance. Yoga offers strength, endurance, balance, flexibility, and relaxation for both the mind and body.
When is a good time to begin?
Yoga is about the now! It is never too late or too early in life to take up yoga. Anyone can practice yoga at any stage of life and in any state of health. Yoga is not about creating what you think looks like a perfect pose; it is about intelligently listening to where you are and respecting what you consider to be your imperfections. This realization is what creates the noncompetitive spirit of yoga. One of the most difficult, but ultimately most liberating things about yoga is letting go of the ego and accepting that no one is better than anyone else. Everyone is just doing their best at each moment.
